At the residence of his son, Pascal Nance, near Blains X Roads, Grainger County, Tenn., April 11, 1895, John Nance in the eighty-second year of his age, being one of the most prominent business men in the county and at the time of his death was estimated to be worth at least two hundred thousand dollars. He was born and raised near to where he died. The Nance family are one of the oldest families in East Tennessee and settled near what is known as Nance’s Ferry in the early part of the present century. He leaves a large connection of relatives and friends to mourn his loss.
