Memorial to Historian Clarence McGinnis
The McGinnises are well-known local historians in the Grainger County area.
Clarence “Johnny” McGinnis, 88, of Morristown, passed away Monday, June 13, 2011.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Earley C. and Maude Henry McGinnis; sister, Ruth Farmer; and brother-in-law, J. L. Farmer.
“Johnny” served his country as a Medic during WWII with the 77th Infantry Division. After returning to civilian life, he and his wife, Grace ran Reliable TV Sales and Service in Buffalo Trail until he retired in 1982.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Grace Medlin McGinnis; daughters, Darlene McGinnis of Morristown, and Janice McGinnis of Oak Ridge; Joe (Judy) Harrell; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 15, 2011 in the east chapel of Allen Funeral Home prior to graveside services at Bethesda Cemetery. Flowers are welcome; honorariums may be made in his honor to the Hamblen County Archives located in the Hamblen County Courthouse.
