Death of David Williams
David Williams, a wealthy farmer of Grainger county, was killed yesterday morning at Dutch Valley, a small station on the K C G & L road, by passenger train No. 53 from Middleborough. Williams had flagged the train and was climbing upon the station platform, when the side of the engine struck him and knocked him down. His head was broken to pieces and his brains flew in every direction. Engineer Hodge was in the cab and did all he could to keep from striking Williams. He reversed his engine so suddenly that it shook up the passengers considerably. Mann & Co. shipped the coffin on No. 52, yesterday afternoon in which Williams will be interred today. Williams was seventy-four years old.
