2012 Cumberland Gap Genealogy Jamboree

By , May 13, 2011

Following the 2011 Cumberland Gap Jamboree, the committee decided to host another event in 2012.  Watch for details here.

From the 2011 brochure:

Four days of walking in the footsteps of our early pioneer ancestors. Gain an understanding of a fundamental component of our heritage.

The trail through 200 miles of wilderness to the Cumberland Gap of Virginia allowed hundreds of thousands of pioneers to settle the American frontier.

Kentucky was admitted to the Union in 1792. By then more than 100,000 people had used the Wilderness Trail to gain access to the Bluegrass country.

Within the next decade between 250,000 and 300,000 people passed through the Cumberland Gap, many moving on westward, building our great country.

It is estimated that, today, more than 50 million Americans have at least one ancestor who was one of those who sought to establish a new life beyond the Appalachian Mountains.

We will have re-enactors, crafts vendors, genealogy/history societies, regional authors, and much more in addition to tremendous programs.  It is ALL FREE and OPEN TO THE PUBLIC!

We’ll see you there!
